Grants from The Edgar E Lawley Foundation
Fifty Years of Philanthropy 1961 to 2011
The Trustees of the Edgar E Lawley Foundation normally meet twice a year in January and July. The January meeting is the principal one for the award of grants in respect of applications made to the Administrative Trustee up to the end of the previous October. Applications received after 31st October will be excluded from consideration in that particular year.
The next round for the awarding of grants is for 2012/13 for which decisions will be made at the Trustees meeting in January 2013. Please note that grant applications for 2012/13 will close on the 31 October 2012 and no exceptions to that deadline will be made. Applications should be made by eligible organisations (i.e. not by or on behalf of private individuals) to Frank Jackson OBE, P.O. Box 456, Esher. KT10 1DP (Tel: 01372 805760) in the three month period up to the 31st October 2012
The Foundation receives many more applications than it can fund and in the year 2011/12 only one in seven applications were successful. The Trustees give preference to charities based in the West Midlands region and they endeavour to achieve a balance between those engaged in the following broad areas, namely
Hospices
Children and Young People
Elderly
Community
Disabled
Medical, Research and other Miscellaneous Projects.
Because of the Foundation's limited resources grants are necessarily modest (they will not usually exceed £1,500) and there can be no assurance that they will be repeated. Applications should be made in writing outlining the reasons for the grant request and the amount of grant being sought. Any supporting information that adds to the strength of the application should be included. Please note there is no standard application form.
The Foundation's grants are normally wholly unrestricted to allow grantees maximum fexibility. The Foundation regrets that it is not possible, unless a stamped addressed envelope has been provided, to communicate directly with unsuccessful applicants and the fact that a grant has not been received by the end of January indicates that it has not been possible to fund it in the year in question. (i.e. 31 January 2013 for grants applied for in 2012/13).
